Moto X, the mid-range smartphone from Motorola, has already racked up 1 million preorders in China. The announcement came in the form of a tweet from Motorola president Rick Osterloh:

A huge thank you to our fans in China for helping us reach 1 million pre-order reservations and counting for #motoxpic.twitter.com/3zcbnxQ4su

Pre-orders do not equate to sales, but the figure provides a strong outlook for the smartphone maker that just re-entered the country under its new owner, Lenovo. Pre-orders opened on January 26.

India was less welcoming to the Moto X, but the phone still remains a strong player there. It took five months for sales to hit the one million mark in India, and it has sold a total of three million units since it launched there one year ago.

The second-gen Moto X first came out in September of last year. It’s available for preorder in China on JD starting from RMB 2,999 (US$479) and will start shipping on February 5.

The Moto X Pro and Moto G are also slated for release sometime after the upcoming Chinese New Year festivities.

According to IDC, Lenovo is now the world’s third-largest smartphone maker in terms of shipments behind Samsung and Apple. That includes models under both the Lenovo and Motorola brands.
